Botanical Art Class – Painting a Prairie Plant

For beginners and experienced artists alike, learn the the observational studies and techniques to create a beautiful botanical artwork. Led by Whidbey Island Botanical Artist Deborah Montgomerie, this one-day course entails:


  • Expert instruction from acclaimed Whidbey botanical artist

  • Outdoor plant seminar from PRI native plant specialist

  • Focuses on native specimens unique to Smith Prairie

  • Learn techniques with pencil, pen & ink, and watercolor

  • Enjoy a comfortable, intimate setting for art instruction

  • Skills that will be taught are highly transferable to any medium including rock painting

  • Open for Adults & teens with an interest in learning to draw and paint

  • Beginners are welcome

About Our Instructor:

Deborah Montgomerie has been involved in the arts nearly her entire life, originally training as a textile designer. She graduated in 2015 from the Society of Botanical Artists in the UK following a 3-year course, and is now a Fellow of the Society. She is also a member of the American Society of Botanical Artists and the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators. A Whidbey Island resident, she is passionate about our island and its native flora.
